The Summer House

The Summer House Ambalangoda features design furniture and contemporary art in a minimal setting. Our pool is perfect for lounging and sunbathing and steps down directly onto the beach. Each bedroom has a view of the sea and the privacy of a private balcony or patio where guests can enjoy meals. The lounge area of the rooftop is set up for guests both day and night and is ideal for sundowners. Our rate includes breakfast with a choice of local, continental or healthy options.

The space

The newly built villa is completely private, located on a stretch of beach that has only a few small villas along the entire stretch. The villa itself comes fully staffed with a chef and housekeeping staff who will take care of cleaning the room and turn down service daily.

Guest access

The entire villa is reserved for each booking and will be exclusively only for that booking. The beach is accessible through the gate that separates the property from the public beach area, however guests are advised to observe caution during low season as the sea can be rough.

Other things to note

Breakfast is included in the room rate and for lunch and dinner we offer guests an a la carte menu from which food and beverages can be selected. Access to the kitchen and cooking at the villa are restricted the villa Chef and staff.

About the Area

Ambalangoda is a sweaty, workaday town, which is completely overshadowed by nearby Hikkaduwa as a tourist destination. The main reason for visiting is to dig under the surface of the Sri Lankan souvenir scene and discover the magical meanings behind the ubiquitous ‘devil’ masks. Genuine devil dances, which drive out spirits causing illness, still occur irregularly in the hinterland villages. It’s only 30 minutes drive to the Dutch city of Galle Fort.
